Launching of Cinq Frères, producer of high-end vanilla and spices, in Mauritius

Having the name of the first vanilla plantation recorded for the first time in 1915, in the region of Sava, in the North-East of Madagascar, Cinq Frères is a company based in Mauritius specializing in the sales of vanilla grown along the Ankavy River, not far from Antalaha – a small town, considered the capital of the famous spice. The brand, which also offers a fine selection of exceptional condiments, is now launching into retail.

Being a subsidiary of Agro Resources Mauritius Cinq Frères has as its core business the production, supply, processing and export of high quality vanilla and spices from Madagascar. Agri Resources Group (subsidiary of Monaco Resources Group) began investing in the production of vanilla and spices in Madagascar in 2015 with the Director of Cinq Frères, Matthieu Lougarre and currently owns no less than 3 plantations totaling 145 hectares as well as two processing centers.

Cinq Frères was therefore created to ensure excellent production but also to promote sustainable agricultural practices combined with collaborative work with local producers. This partnership has already enabled the loyalty of several large customers from the food and cosmetics industries. Today, the company wants to bring the same quality products directly to the retail market. « Our mission is to bring producers closer to consumers, on the one hand to offer new opportunities and better incomes to our local partners and on the other hand to guarantee products of better quality and with a lower environmental impact to our customers. » explains Matthieu Lougarre Director of Cinq Frères

 Focus on retail marketing

In the expansion process, Cinq Frères embarks on a new adventure in retail marketing by offering its customers vanilla pods distinguished by Ecocert Organic Agriculture certification and which are grown, processed, exported and marketed by it. This approach makes the entity the only feature in the vanilla sector on the market to have no recourse to any intermediary and to be able to guarantee a product with optimal traceability, from the field to consumer. " In addition, all our fields are managed in a sustainable way according to the precepts of agroecology. Absence of chemicals, crop associations, rotations, maintenance of plant cover, preservation of local species and reforestation; all this is part of our strategies » says Matthieu.

Cinq Frères these are therefore products such as gourmet vanilla from Madagascar, vanilla powder but also high-end spices such as pink berries, cinnamon, nutmeg, white pepper, black pepper, wild pepper, not to mention a whole range of exceptional products such as cocoa butter, whole cocoa beans, ginger and kaffir lime zest.

« En réduisant le nombre d’intermédiaires, nous pouvons assurer la qualité des produits qui peuvent séduire tout le monde, des gastronomes amateurs aux chefs gastronomiques à des prix très accessibles. » says Matthieu.

A production with a positive social impact

Cinq Frères is a company which is committed to working with local producers as well as small farmers. In order to guarantee traceability, quality and fair remuneration for farmers, Cinq Frères works in close collaboration with the association Inside Madagascar » and APVAM (Association des Planteurs de Vanille d’Ankavia Meva) which currently brings together more than 600 producers. Involved in the field, Cinq Frères also delivers training on the preparation of vanilla in order to improve quality and enable producers to capture a greater part of the added value of the sector. " We rely on education, the promotion of quality, fair remuneration and the popularization of good farming practices in order to have a positive impact on the development of local communities and limit that of the vanilla sector on the environment. » adds Matthieu.

Today, the products of Cinq Frères are sold on their website www.cinq-freres.com and are available for sale and delivery throughout Mauritius.
